Social projection
Over the years, the CIHATA has acquired valuable experience in the research lines it develops. Because of the afore mentioned, significant efforts have been made to use this knowledge for the well-being of the populations the center works with. Thanks to this, the CIHATA maintains important alliances with institutions that are part of the national health system and non-governmental organizations. These collaborations promote support in patient education, health professionals’ training, and awareness-raising among the general population in various areas related to hematological diseases (sickle cell disease, thalassemias, among others) and neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease). Currently, the CIHATA maintains important alliances with national and regional hospitals of the Costa Rican Social Security System (Caja Costarricense del Seguro Social or CCSS in Spanish) as well as with patient organizations such as the Fundación para la Investigación y Apoyo a la Persona con Drepanocitosis (Foundation for Research and Support for People with Sickle Cell Disease or Fundrepa in English) and the Asociación Costarricense de Alzheimer y Otras Demencias Asociadas or ASCADA (Costa Rican Association of Alzheimer's and Other Associated Dementias in English).
